GLOWA Jordan River – Sustainable Water Management under Global Change

- Integrated water and land management under climate and global change in the Jordan River basin.
- Coordinated and contributed to scenario analysis, WEAP-based water-resource assessment, and communication of integrated strategies in Jordan.
- Assessed socioeconomic consequences of climate change and ecosystem-service values and linked these to land- and water-management options.
- Contributed to regional information synthesis, adaptation scenarios and decision-oriented outputs for water managers and stakeholders.
Result: Established a long-term ATEEC reference in IWRM, climate adaptation, water-allocation modelling, stakeholder-oriented scenario analysis and science-policy translation.
SMART II – Integrated Water Resources Management in the Lower Jordan Rift Valley

Water Demand Management in Mediterranean Countries: Thinking Outside the Water Box! – Jordan Case Study

- Developed methods to estimate the economic value of water using agricultural-sector models with water as a scarce input.

Groundwater Governance in the Arab World: Taking Stock and Addressing the Challenges

- Contributed Jordan evidence on unsustainable groundwater use and governance challenges.
- Prepared in-depth case-study and action-plan inputs for problem aquifers and supported science-policy dialogue.

SALAM – Regional Water Strategy / Water Production and Transport Options

- Assessed current and future water deficits in Jordan and Palestine and the additional supply required to close projected gaps.
- Evaluated alternative water-production and transport options including seawater desalination, transfer and water-swap strategies.
- Conducted financial and social feasibility assessment of alternative production scales and regional supply configurations.
- Contributed to stakeholder-oriented comparison of regional strategies, including Red Sea–Dead Sea related options.
Result: Major ATEEC reference for desalination economics, regional water strategy, IWRM, financial feasibility, stakeholder participation and transboundary planning.
SMART-MOVE – Integrated Transfer of Innovative Water Technologies and Management Instruments

- Assessed, compared and ranked water-production, wastewater-treatment and managed-aquifer-recharge options.
- Analysed environmental and economic performance of MAR implementation at selected sites in Jordan.

- Led or supported stakeholder engagement, selection of socioeconomic/environmental indicators, social acceptance analysis and multi-criteria ranking of upgraded water plans.
Result: Demonstrates integrated assessment of innovative water technologies, MAR, water allocation, stakeholder acceptance, multi-criteria analysis and resilient water planning.
Development of the MENA Regional Drought Management System – Jordan
2015–2018 · USAID / IWMIATEEC National Project Coordinator / Principal Investigator
- Supported operational drought monitoring and multi-institutional early-warning arrangements.
- Led or contributed to socioeconomic data collection and analysis of past drought impacts and vulnerability.
- Contributed to drought-risk profiles, climate-change analysis of future drought impacts on water and crop systems, and policy review.
- Supported establishment of the National Drought Management Committee and contributed to drought-management legal/policy instruments and the National Drought Action Plan.
Result: Flagship evidence of ATEEC capability in drought governance, vulnerability assessment, early warning, institutional coordination and climate-resilience policy.
SALAM II – The SALAM Initiative: Transboundary IWRM Strategies for the Resolution of the Water Deficit Problem in the Middle East
2019–2022 · BMBF / University of GöttingenATEEC consortium partner; coordinator of SALAM II activities in Jordan
- Selected priority development and water-management goals and supported definition and weighting of decision indicators.
- Quantified sector water balances for Jordanian demand areas under climate and socioeconomic scenarios over a 20-year planning horizon.
- Defined and assessed priority water-transfer and SWAP solutions and contributed to conceptual planning and economic evaluation.
- Contributed to wastewater-reuse management concepts for the Lower Jordan Valley, including conjunctive use of treated wastewater, brackish groundwater and freshwater.
- Quantified costs and economic benefits of reuse options and supported comparison of alternative transboundary water strategies.
Result: One of ATEEC’s strongest references for IWRM, desalination/transfer strategies, wastewater reuse, economic indicators, scenario analysis, stakeholder priorities and cross-border water planning.
