From technical innovation to sustainable deployment
ATEEC works at the interface between technology development and real-world deployment. Technical performance alone is not sufficient: water and environmental technologies must also demonstrate affordability, operational feasibility, user acceptance, institutional compatibility and a credible pathway for financing and wider adoption.
The integrated water-innovation framework
From site evidence to system requirements
ATEEC characterises source water, soils, crops, climate, infrastructure, permits and user constraints, and translates them into agricultural, technical, monitoring and acceptance requirements that define what a solution must achieve before detailed engineering design begins.
From stakeholders to co-designed solutions
Through Multi-Actor co-design, farmers, operators, water authorities, advisory services, SMEs and financiers participate in requirements definition, site readiness, commissioning, field validation and uptake decisions — so solutions reflect local practices, affordability constraints, governance conditions and behavioural adoption barriers.
From technical performance to investment decisions
ATEEC evaluates technologies and infrastructure using integrated performance frameworks covering capital and operating costs, energy consumption, resource efficiency, environmental performance, operational reliability and user requirements.
From field data to validated performance
ATEEC contributes to KPI and technology-readiness validation frameworks, cross-site performance evaluation and the assessment of operating cost, user acceptance and transferability — ensuring reported performance reflects documented operating conditions rather than isolated best-case values.
From pilot systems to sustainable services
We assess alternative ownership, financing and service arrangements to identify viable pathways for operation beyond pilot and demonstration stages: farmer-owned systems, cooperative arrangements, SME-operated services, water-as-a-service models and public-private partnerships.
From innovation to replication
ATEEC develops replication and scale-up frameworks that identify the technical, economic, environmental, institutional and market conditions required to transfer successful solutions to other locations.
Digital decision support, policy and capacity
ATEEC integrates monitoring data, technical performance indicators and economic analytics into practical decision-support approaches for operators, farmers, project managers and decision makers — supporting maintenance planning, operating decisions, cost-performance assessment and investment planning, with usability, decision quality and acceptance documented with real users.
We work with competent authorities and stakeholders to identify regulatory, institutional and governance requirements that influence technology deployment, water allocation, service provision and long-term sustainability — and we deliver the training, field days, stakeholder events and practice-oriented guidance that keep validated solutions operated, financed and replicated after demonstration ends.
Typical scope within integrated water-innovation consortia
- Techno-economic and lifecycle assessment of decentralised desalination and water-treatment platforms (CAPEX, OPEX, cost-performance benchmarking)
- Business and service models for smallholder deployment — direct ownership, cooperative, service-provider, desalination-as-a-service and public-private arrangements
- Financing, ownership and governance pathways, including tariff and cost-recovery analysis and structured financing dialogues
- Mediterranean replication toolkits and scale-up criteria, applied to additional replication cases
- Policy, IWRM and commercialisation pathway recommendations
- Site baseline characterisation and definition of agricultural, technical, monitoring and acceptance requirements
- Multi-Actor co-design, decision-rights frameworks and societal-readiness synthesis across project gates
- KPI, validation and TRL evidence frameworks and cross-site performance validation
- User validation of monitoring platforms and decision-support tools with operators, farmers and competent authorities
- Market and user assessment of recovered by-products; circularity and DNSH compliance dossiers
- Practical irrigation and salinity-management handbooks for farmers, operators and advisers
- Training, field days, policy and stakeholder events, and exploitation and market-engagement support
